Gold lost some of its sparkle in the third quarter -  demand  fell 7%  on year. The World Gold Council says this drop was almost exclusively driven by ETFs – which swung from very large inflows in Q3 2020 to modest outflows this year. In The Straits Times' The Big Story, Singapore confirmed its first case of the Covid-19 Delta Plus variant yesterday, in an imported case detected on Tuesday. Assistant video editor Olivia Quay spoke to Dr. Leong Hoe Nam, an infectious diseases physician from the Rophi Clinic to find out why this subvariant is expected to be similar - in transmissibility and severity of illness - to the Delta variant that is ravaging the world. Dr. Leong also outlines the conditions for a variant to be classified by the World Health Organization as a variant of concern.
