Morning Shot: Will a Nationwide Population Survey Uncover Solutions to Defuse China’s ‘Long-Term Time Bomb’?
China's National Bureau of Statistics will be holding a nationwide population sample survey in November - in a bid to accurately and promptly monitor its demographic development and better plan its population policies.
This year's survey come as China recorded its first population decline in over six decades last year, with all eyes on the outcome of its three-child policy that allows all couples to have up to three children, which was announced in May 2021.
Social demographer and family sociologist, Yun Zhou, who is an Assistant Professor from the Faculty of Sociology at University of Michigan - shares her insights on its significance.
