Morning Shot: More protection for children with abusive parents seeking maintenance
Under the latest changes to the Maintenance of Parents Act, parents who abused, abandoned or neglected their children will not be able to seek monetary support from them. They will have to seek permission from the Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents, before proceeding with their claims, to avoid putting victims through undue distress
Seah Kian Peng, Chairperson of Government Parliamentary Committee for Social and Family Development, who led a workgroup in review of the Act, weighs in on the issue.
