Money and Me: Bird Flu fears and the rise of ASEAN meat stocks
In Singapore, authorities have advised people not to touch or feed wild birds as a precaution against Avian Flu or H5N1. There have been no cases here so far. Australia however, has reported its first human case of avian influenza. It was the first instance of detection of the H5N1 strain in a person or animal in the country. The child who was severely unwell has since made a full recovery. To date, 7 poultry farms in Australia have been hit by the highly pathogenic avian influenza. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in June reported the first human casualty of the H5N2 strain of Bird Flu. The death took place in Mexico. In the US, top CDC officials have called for more testing of humans and animals. As chicken farms from the US to Australia grapple with the fears of the spread of avian influenza, what does this mean for ASEAN meat stocks? Are chicken prices about to rise? Money in the Market: How J&T Express' potential listing may be a proxy to TikTok's ascent
J&T Express, a leading e-commerce logistics company in Southeast Asia & China, has recently filed for an IPO listing in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Although no details of the fundraising size and timeline has been revealed, sources say the proposed sale share is expected to raise between $500 million to $1 billion. This would make it one of the largest Hong Kong issues in 2023. J&T Express is the market leader in ASEAN and is a fledgling player in China.
