Market View: Singapore’s core inflation eases to 4.7% on-year in May; Japan’s core inflation numbers exceeds forecasts in May; TikTok’s leadership changes; Ford preparing a new round of layoffs; Quarz Capital’s proposal for Sabana REITto use internal manager
Singapore shares dipped today after global markets ended mixed overnight.
In terms of companies to watch for today, we have Sabana Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust.
That’s after its manager has criticised activist investor Quarz Capital’s proposal for the Reit to use an internal manager instead, warning unit holders that it may destroy the value of their investment.
Meanwhile, we’re seeing a number of international news making headlines including Japan’s inflation numbers, leadership changes at TikTok, layoffs at Ford and not to mention – a cage fight between Twitter’s Elon Musk and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg.

Market View: Sats’ 2H earnings down despite 57.1% rise in revenue; SIA’s appetisers on Sats’ top line; Delay in Olam Agri’s IPO; CP All, Airports of Thailand, PPT Exploration and Production; Eyes on Washington with Congress set to vote on debt ceiling deal
Singapore shares opened higher today after European markets ended mixed amid concerns over the US debt deal and rate hike possibility.
In early trade, the Straits Times Index (STI) was up 0.1 per cent to 3,197.69 points after 41.6 million securities changed hands in the broader market.
In terms of companies to watch for today, we have Sats. The in-flight caterer and ground handler reported earnings of S$6 million for the second half-year ended March 2023.
That’s a 16.7 per cent decrease year on year, and comes despite a 57.1 per cent increase in revenue.
Elsewhere, all eyes are on Washington with the House set to vote on the US debt ceiling deal to prevent a painful default by the world’s largest economy.
Aside from that, we have yet more corporate news for you ranging from BYD’s bid to supply EVs to Indonesia’s largest taxi operator to the trading of three new Thailand blue-chip names on the Singapore stock exchange.

Market View: Genting Singapore’s H2 net profit more than doubled yoy, Sembcorp Industries H2 profits up 54% yoy, SingPost’s operating profit fell 9.7 per cent despite rising revenues
Singapore stocks opened nearly flat today following gains in the European market.
The Straits Times Index fell 0.04 per cent to 3,307.59 points in early trade after 87.2 million securities changed hands.
In terms of companies developments to watch today, integrated resort operator Genting Singapore’s net profit for its second half-year ended December more than doubled from the year-ago period to S$255.7 million
Similarly, Sembcorp Industries posted a 54 per cent on-year increase for its H2 net profit ended December, as a result of higher contributions from its renewables and conventional energy segments.
