In today's digital economy, data has become an indispensable force behind capitalism. Thanks to Web analytics, third-party data warehouses, and better customer tracking software, customer data is almost readily available. With that comes the indiscriminate collection and negligent handling of personal data, which in turn increases the risk of unintended disclosure and sensitive information being used for illegal activities such as identity theft or fraud. But why do companies still have an insatiable appetite for personal data?
